"In the fifty years my parents were married, in the thousands of conversations my dad had with me, it had just never come up. And so there I was, weeks after his death, getting another lesson from him about the meaning of sacrifice?and about the power of humility"

"In August, it was time for a quarterly review of the Hospital Anderson. Jai and I, we went to Houston and left the kids with a babysitter. We acted as if we were in some kind of romantic escape from the house. The day before the examination, we went up to large water park - of course, my idea of a romantic getaway - and I was riding a rollercoaster, laughing like crazy. And then, on Wednesday, 15 August 2007, we arrived at the hospital that my oncologist, Robert Wolff, a look at the latest CT scan. They introduced us to his office where a nurse asked a few routine questions. - Any changes in weight, Randy? Do you all still the same medication? - Jai noticed cheerful, sung tone of her sister's voice when it's full of cheerfulness said - OK, the doctor will soon come and see you - and closed the door. was located in the office computer. I noticed that it had not ruled sister; my medical records were on the screen. Of course I can cope well with the computer, but this situation is not looking for any hacking. The entire history of the disease was in front of me. - Shall we take a look? - I asked Jai. I did not feel any remorse about it. After all, it is about my findings. I began to browse and found a blood test. There was some sort of thirty unknown value, but I knew what I was looking - tumor marker CA 19-9. I found it and pointed to the frightening number of 208 normal value is below the 37th I studied it for a second. - almost - I said Jai. - The game is terminated. - What do you mean? - She asked. I showed her the value of CA 19-9. She was already sufficiently addressed in the treatment of cancer and knew that 208 means metastases - condemnation. - That's not funny - she said. - Cut the crap."

"I'll take an earnest person over a hip person every time, because hip is short term. Earnest is long term."

"I'm very hurt knowing that not having a father when they are older. When I cry in the bathroom, you never think 'I will see how they do this or that. I just think about the children who will not have a father. It troubles me that you will lose them, not as I will lose myself. It is true that part of my grief goes on I'll never... but a much larger part of me grieves for them. Constantly comes to mind they will not... they will not... they will not. There is biting me inside, when you surrender weaknesses."

"It just proves that if you can find an opening, you can probably find a way to float through it."

"It is not about achieving your dreams but living your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, the dreams will come to you."

"It makes no sense to talk about rights without also talking about responsibilities."

"It was not about achieving your dreams, but about how you live your life. If you live in the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you."

"It went on like this, Tuesday after Tuesday."

"It?s not how hard you hit. It?s how hard you get hit? and keep moving forward."

"It's interesting, the secrets you decide to reveal at the end of your life."

"It's been well-documented that there is a growing sense of entitlement among young people. I have certainly seen that in my classrooms. So many graduating seniors have this notion that they should get hired because of their creative brilliance. Too many are unhappy with the idea of starting at the bottom. My advice has always been: 'You ought to be thrilled you got a job in the mailroom. And when you get there, here's what you do: Be really great at sorting mail.' No one wants to hear someone say: 'I'm not good at sorting mail because the job is beneath me.' No job should be beneath us. And if you can't (or won't) sort mail, where is the proof that you can do anything?"

"It's not about the cards you're dealt, but how you play the hand."

"It?s important to have specific dreams. Dream Big. Dream without fear."

"It's a thrill to fulfill your own childhood dreams, but as you get older, you may find that enabling the dreams of others is even more fun."

"I've found that a substantial fraction of many people?s days is spent worrying about what others think of them. If nobody ever worried about what was in other people?s heads, we?d all be 33 percent more effective in our lives and on our jobs."

"It's not helpful if we spend every day dreading tomorrow."

"I've always admired people who are over-prepared. In college, I had a classmate named Norman Meyrowitz. One day he was giving a presentation on an overhead projector" and the bulb subsequently went out. The class thought the presentation was over. "It's okay," Norm announced . . . and he went to his backpack and grabbed an extra bulb he brought with him."

"Jai handles me by being frank."

"Jim Graham had been a linebacker at Penn State, and was seriously old-school. I mean, really old-school; like he thought the forward pass was a trick play."

"Just ignore everything they say and only pay attention to what they do."

"Let?s just drive ?em."

"Looking at this man in action, I've learned a lot. He is the essence of a dynamic manager, he knew extraordinary distribute tasks, motivate others, and even look good in overalls. He never claimed that he was more capable than their subordinates. He recognized their abilities within their domains. But he gave the vision and tone, he lifted the spirit. In addition, he had that romantic face that he made ??women in all galaxies. I remember myself as a ten year olds with glasses in front of the TV. Every time he appeared on screen Kirk had the feeling that I was in front of me a Greek god."

"Just because you?re in the driver seat, doesn?t mean you have to run people over."

"Make your office comfortable for you, and optionally comfortable for others."

"My coach knew there was only one way to develop (self-esteem): You give children something they can't do, they work hard until they find they can do it, and you just keep repeating the process."

"Most people who have told a lie think they got away with it ? when in fact, they didn?t"

"Kids need to know their parents love them. Their parents don?t need to be alive for that to happen."

"My mother saw it as part of her mission to keep my cockiness in check. I'm grateful for that now...We now live in an age when parents praise every child as a genius"

"Never underestimate the importance of having fun. I?m dying and I?m having fun. And I?m going to keep having fun every day because there?s no other way to play it?.Having fun for me is like a fish talking about the importance of water. I don?t know how it is like not to have fun?"

"No matter how bad things are, you can always make things worse. At the same time, it is often within your power to make them better."

"My daughter has just eighteen months, so she cannot say this now, but when he's old enough, I'd love to hear what once told one colleague. I think this is good advice for all the young ladies. Actually, on second thought, that's the best advice you've ever heard. It took me a long time, but eventually I realized. When it comes to men who are interested in you romantically, the matter is simple. Should ignore everything they say and only pay attention to what we are doing found it. This is it. For you, Chloe. seems to me that this advice could be used Dylan and Logan, when the time comes."

"People lie for lots of reasons, often because it seems like a way to get what they want with less effort."

"Not really - she replied. - It was an accident. When she left, I was struck by her sincerity. This casual remark reminded me of the many coincidences that play a role in our coming to life ... and our journey toward death. There was a woman who accidentally conceived a child, but it will surely love. I will however, by chance called cancer, left three children who will grow up without my love."

"She told us she could see the great respect between us."

"Put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others."

"People lie for many reasons, mostly because they seem to be so with less effort to get what they want. But as with many strategies in the short term, this is totally ineffective in the long run. Later you will come across the same people, and they will know that they're one lied. Will tell others about it. This is exactly what I am surprised at lying. Many liars think they can be easily slipped, but not really."

"Self-esteem? He knew there was really one way to teach kids how to develop it: You give them something they can't do, they work hard until they can do it, and you keep repeating the process."

"Show gratitude. When I got tenure I took all of my research team down to Disneyworld for a week. And one of the other professors at Virginia said, how can you do that? I said these people just busted their ass and got me the best job in the world for life. How could I not do that?"

"Syl gave the best piece of advice pound-for-pound that I have ever heard. And I think all young ladies should hear this. Syl said, it took me a long time but I've finally figured it out. When it comes to men that are romantically interested in you, it's really simple. Just ignore everything they say and only pay attention to what they do. It's that simple. It's that easy. And I thought back to my bachelor days and I said, damn."

"Sometimes all you have to do is ask, and it can lead to all your dreams coming true."

"So today's talk was about my childhood dreams, enabling the dreams of others, and some lessons learned. But did you figure out the head fake? [dramatic pause] It's not about how to achieve your dreams. It's about how to lead a life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you."

"So what is today's talk about then? It's about my childhood dreams and how I've achieved them ? I've been very fortunate that way; how I believe I've been able to enable the dreams of others, and to some degree, lessons learned: I'm a professor ? there should be some lessons learned ? and how you can use the stuff you hear today to enable your dreams or enable the dreams of others. And as you get older you may find that enabling-the-dreams-of-others thing is even more fun."

"Take Time Out. It's not a real vacation if you're reading email or calling in for messages."

"Somehow, with the passage of time, and the deadlines that life imposes, surrendering became the right thing to do."

"Taking into account its limited artistic gift, I decided it would be best if you paint things in simple geometric shapes. So I painted a simple rocket with wings and mirrored with the inscription: Remember when I told you that you're beautiful? I lied! '"

"Tell The Truth. All The Time. No one is pure evil."

"That is what it is. We can't change it. We just have to decide how we'll respond. We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand."

"The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don?t want it badly enough. They?re there to stop the other people."

"The best way to teach somebody something is to have them think they're learning something else.I?ve done it my whole career. And the head fake here is that they?re learning to program but they just think they?re making movies and video games."
